Suan Phung

Khao Chan Waterfall, Suan Phung

Far into the Suan Phung region, not so far from the border with Myanmar, you will find the Khao Chan waterfall.

It’s a place to enjoy yourself although in the weekend you won’t be alone. Nevertheless the waterfall is worth a visit. The area is beautiful.

You will find this waterfall by turning left at the Phu Pha Phung resort. Pass the Swiss Valley Hip resort as well as the The Scenery and Panalee resorts. Follow the road until you can only turn right and left. Turn right. Follow this road till the end. Here you find a small parking. During busy days you will be asked to pay 20 baht for the parking.

From the parking it is just a very short walk of a few hundred meter to reach the waterfall. At the start a small suspension bridge crosses the stream.

But just before the bridge you can turn right and walk up the hill and visit a few of the higher steps of the waterfall. Here you can see that the water has done it’s work for a very long time. Huge rocks have gotten very smooth surfaces. In the weekend people come to enjoy themselves here on the mountain, next to the fresh water. You will hardly find foreigners here.

Around the parking area there is a small market. I imagine this is only open during weekends. The market mostly offers food and drinks. But we also found one person creating beautiful glass miniatures.

A few hundred meter back on the road you can visit an orchid nursery. They give a short tour around the area and have a guide explaining the processes to grow the orchids.
